  • Wake Up

    Wake Up

    by Ben Ayuko

If spaceships were real, and they could fly

Why would I bother flying out in the sky

When no other drug could compare to this high

No type of relief could make me this sigh

No shining celestial, no moon or stars

Could ever shine brighter than my mind in the dark

No galaxy far a away or nebula cloud

Could glisten as brilliant as what I’m seeing now

Then I wake up, I’m feeling fine

But I sense something deep inside

Is this real? Is it in my mind?

I can’t stop counting all the times

I’ve tried to get myself to see

This stuff I’m doin isn’t good for me

I’m trapped inside this world of slime

This world of old, this world of mine

This world on hold, is out of time

And I need to get to get out of this lie

It’s Ever present , was always here

From Time started and still it’s here

But Chaos streaming now through the sphere

The bubble burst, out came the tears

The captain jumps ship, oh my dear

The eyes unveiled, the truth is here

The illusion broken, the blood is near

This IS real, This’ real fear

4 Reasons why you should play God of War (2018)

God of War is a game created by David Jaffe at the Santa Monica Studio in America, and 6 years ago, in 2018, they released the 4th installment of the game titled “God of War”

These are some of the reasons I liked playing it.

    The Story

This is probably the best thing about the game, and that is saying a lot. Kratos, the protagonist, has been the bane of the gods for a fare many years. Based in Greek mythology, he has gained a reputation for his propensity to communicate through his anger using his blades of chaos. in this, the fourth installment of the franchise (with regard to console gaming), Kratos finds himself in Midgard, of Norse Mythos as he attempts to navigate and balance being a god with being a father.

After Kratos’ wife, Faye, passes away, she leaves behind her dying wish: for her ashes to be scattered from atop the highest mountain peak in all the 9 realms.  This sets Kratos and his son, Atreus, on a journey across the 9 realms, e.g. Alfheim, Muspelheim, Niflheim, etc., where, for the first-time, we witness Kratos having to show a vulnerability we had yet to see as he attempts to connect with son as they mourn the passing of their wife/mother

    The Gameplay

This being God of War, it stays true to its roots with the visceral combat as Kratos shows no mercy cutting down all manner creatures down to size. This includes Trolls, Ogres, the undead, the dark elves, dragons and even the Valkyrie.

All this is done with his new weapon, the Leviathan Axe. A powerful axe which can be recalled to the thrower producing a similar effect to a boomerang. Atreus also helps out with the combat using his archery skills taught to him by his mother and later, his father.

There is also all manner of puzzles one has to solve, in true god of war fashion, without any hand holding. Sometimes you don’t even realize where or when the puzzle begins. There are no hints whatsoever apart from Atreus occasionally going, ‘What’s that over there?” or “That looks interesting”.

    The Lore

The lore of the game gets very deep as you come across various different characters, both dead and alive, who are either malevolent or benevolent. Characters like Freya- the witch, Mimir- the talking head would help you on your journey whereas others like Baldur- son of Odin, and Magni and Modi- sons of Thor, would hunt you down for some nefarious purpose.

There are many Giant murals (as in murals made by Giants) scattered across the land that tells of their history on earth as well as many stone carvings that exposit the tales of the travelers who came there before and maybe were not as equipped or as fortunate.

Get to know of Jormungandr, the world serpent whose coils wrap around the world and the dwarves whose architecture was so advanced, Odin felt threatened enough by it to be compelled to destroy it, forcing them all into hiding.

Yggdrasil, the world tree connecting all nine realms, is also a feature in the game you employ in order to travel across the realms.

    The Graphics

God of War is a very beautiful game. Whether its the magic emanating from your armor/weapons. Or the scenery you get to see from the Mountain tops. The forests you travel into. All of these, of course, being entirely unique in each of the different realms you journey into.

And it seems they knew this too because they added a ‘photo mode’ feature in the pause screen which enables you to take screenshots whenever you deem necessary and saves them directly onto your machine for you to look at whenever you please. These are some of my own examples:

There are so many reasons to play this game, I could go on and on about it. This is barely the top of the tip of the iceberg.

There’s a reason it won the award “Game of the Year” in 2018.

  • THE PAIN WITHIN

    THE PAIN WITHIN

    By Janet Wambua.

In shadows deep where sorrows dwell,

A tale of pain, I now shall tell,

For in the hearts of teens it lies,

A whispered truth, that pain defies.

Within these walls of youthful hearts,

Where dreams are forged and torn apart,

The ache of growing, changing tide,

Echoes through the soul, deep inside.

Beneath the weight of heavy sighs,

    Unseen battles in tearful eyes,

A constant struggle, fierce and real,

In this journey to find what’s ideal.

The sting of rejection, oh, how it burns,

A lesson learned as trust discerns,

But in the depths of this bitter strife,

Resilience grows, shaping a stronger life.

The ache of heartbreak, piercing and raw,

A love once cherished, now in withdrawal,

But from the fragments, strength will arise,

For love’s rebirth in wiser guise.

Amidst the chaos and inner war,

Teen souls seek solace, longing for more,

Yet through the anguish, light will shine,

Guiding them toward a hope divine.

So let this pain be not in vain,

For every scar, a tale to gain,

In shared experience, they’ll find release,

    Connecting hearts, offering peace.

For pain unites us, young and old,

A testament to the stories untold,

Let empathy embrace the teen’s distress,

And guide them towards healing, no less.

So when you feel pain’s relentless sting,

Remember, dear teen, you’re not alone in this thing,

Embrace your battles, let resilience be,

The key to unlock a future pain-free.

  • GOODBYE

    GOODBYE

    By Shirlene Omondi

Flowers will bloom inside my lungs and keep me from the cold,

The earth will embrace me and keep me warm,

The world is too chaotic and it’s no one`s fault,

Nothing can change for it was my time to go.

    Why? You ask,

    I wish I could give a reason,

But my soul got weary every passing season,

Holding on felt like a task,

But my answers are with the one above.

I know you`ll miss my smile,

I`m sorry I never said goodbye,

I tried, and tried and tried,

But eventually ran out of time.

    Do not cry,

    Keep me in your mind,

as I’ll keep you in mine,

    Carry my love with you,

    And in your heart,

    Hold me in truth.

Look up whenever you think of me,

Close your eyes and count to three,

    Can you feel the breeze?

    That’s me.

    I`m at peace.

    The birds chipping once again

    The sunshine rays dripping

    The weeks are gone by

    It is a new dawn

Another new day yet to live in

New memories we get to take hold of

    New moments in life

Sunshine brings some demeanor of calmness

Yet it is said rain are an indication of blessings

Sunshine brings some peace and quiet

We get to rethink of the future that is yet to come

No idea of what is in store for us

But the optimistic side won the whole part of us

We are left yearning for wealth

Without thinking of ways to toil our wealth

Once again wealth and riches absorb us

As we plot of ways to get wealthier

Any means available as we are all in need of riches

We are all lustful for wealth and ready to die for it

Mother nature is now left in control.

Sun rays shimmers as he awake a story

A story of a new dawn that awakens sunrise

Sunrise as the flower beams in the Wild Wild West

The serenity is comforting and seems to speak of inner peace

Inner peace that awakens inner beauty

The beauty in life that makes it glamorous and soothing

We are set to look to the East as we await for the wits

The universe is not our home

As we set out to seek solace

    We are masters of peacemakers

Art in making all a complete will

A complete understanding that rocks it all

We are all left to gaze at the stars as they twinkle as that is ideally where we got the glimmer

Let in the the sun beam

That lights up the one dream

That we used to have when we don’t sleep

And wish for the best seems

    Hope is never lost.

Times have been tough, and things have gone wrong,
But the deep love we share has been there all along,
You say why go on, there’s nothing that’s right,
But we never give up, we continue to fight.

There’s a light of love that gives us our sight,
Our hearts may get dark at times, but we know there is light,
We both have situations not fair,
But inside we get through them because of something special we share.

The trials make you aware of the way we feel,
A love that is not fake but so very real,
I know at times that it seems like a raw deal,
But we must get through these trails until we are healed.

Trials are not easy, and you feel there’s no hope,
There are times when you feel you’re at the end of your rope,
But you must go down deep in the pit of your heart,
Let it stop your despair and give a new start.

For true love for each other is a gift some never get,
So when that trial comes, don’t ever forget,
That there is a rare thing we share that had to come from above,
And those trials will end, what got you through was pure love.

  • WHAT IF I MARRY HER

    WHAT IF I MARRY HER

    By Abdul Shaban

What if nature is not fair to you

What if I marry your girlfriend,

What if I treat her better than you did,

What if I live my promises with her,

Will you still be mad at me?

What if she finds the love of her life in me,

What if I sent sweet romantic poems to her,

What if I go with her to the movies,

What if I build a home with her,

What if I get kids with her,

    Will you still forgive me?

What if she lies to you only to be with me,

What if she fails to come meet you,

Only to come and hang out with me,

What if she lies to you she doesn’t sing,

But sings to me the whole night,

Will you be stupid to believe her?

What if I am the hero in her dreams,

What if her heart melts only when she sees me,

What if she introduces me to you as her cousin,

And deep inside I’m her beloved lover,

What if she pecks me in front of you,

Will you be kind enough to give us a space?

    When that time comes,

When I finally marry your girlfriend,

Don’t be mad instead be happy,

    For she will be secure,

    Safe in my arms .
