    Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest scoring professional footballer of all time, with 807 goals, after bagging a hat-trick against Tottenham . The Portuguese broke the previous record of 805 goals held by Josef Bican. His hat-trick helped Man United beat Tottenham 3-2.

    Ronaldo had missed the Manchester Derby the week before but was clearly itching to play this week. His first goal of the night was the best of the lot after he found time and space to fire a rocket into the top corner past Hugo Lloris. Tottenham equalized after Harry Kane converted a penalty from a handball by Alex Telles. United took the lead once more through Ronaldo after  Sancho beat the offside trap to set him up for his second. In the second half, a Maguire own goal levelled the game but Ronaldo once again powered a header past Lloris from a corner delivered by Telles.

    The win helped Man United climb into the top four despite having played 4 more games than Arsenal. Arsenal will face Leicester on Sunday and a win will put the Gunners  back into the top four. United next host Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie which is level at 1-1 on aggregate. Atletico Madrid will be weary of Cristiano Ronaldo as every knockout tie they lost between 2014 and 2019 was at the hands of a team containing Cristiano.

  • Daystar Student Mysteriously Goes Missing After Going Out for Food

    A student from Daystar University, Athi River, has been reported missing by the school’s administration after a two-week disappearance.

    Paul Charles Agesa was last seen on the evening of Sunday, February 20, when he left to get food off-campus.

    According to his roommate and friend, Agesa had spent the entire day indoors before leaving at around 7 pm with only his phone.

    “After going to the gym, he showers then goes off campus because he’s the one who volunteers to get us supper,” he said.

    Nebad Kisanya, Agesa’s father, said the last time they heard from the third-year ACS student was when he sent a birthday message to his father and sister in their WhatsApp family group.

    “On Monday morning, I happened to call but I did not find him. His phone was off.” he said, “Usually when he’s in class, his phone goes off. But later in the evening, he calls back.” 

    The school sent out an alert on February 27, urging the students for assistance in tracing Agesa’s whereabouts.

    Speaking to NTV, Dean of Students, Rev. Mutinda Musyimi, disclosed that investigations within the campus were futile.

    “The very first question we asked ourselves is who are his closest friends? Is it possible he went to see them? But we talked to those friends but none of them seems to know where he is,” said Rev Musyimi.

    Police have begun an investigation and are looking into his call data as a primary lead. His Safaricom line could not be traced as of Thursday however, his Telkom line was tracked to Kibwezi, 168km away from the campus.

    “We’ve sent a communication to all the students so that we can work together on this, but that has not yielded any fruit,” said Rev Musyimi.

    Agesa’s family is calling on the Daystar Fraternity to assist in finding their son.

    As couples celebrate the month of love football lovers are not left out.

    The month of February to them means the return of one of the world’s most loved competitions, the UEFA Champions League.

    The Champions League round of 16 kicked off on February 15 after taking a break right after the group stages since December and some tasty ties are lined up. The start offs were Real Madrid playing against Paris Saint Germain (PSG) at the Parc Des Princes. The game came to an end with the teams having 0-1 respectively.

    PSG has reached the Final and Semi Final the past two seasons and will be looking to go a step further and win it this season. The signing of Lionel Messi added more pressure on PSG to deliver the trophy.

    Another monumental clash will see Inter Milan, the Italian Champions, make their return to the round of 16 after almost a decade out. They face a tough test against the 2019 champions Liverpool who have signed Luis Diaz from Porto to add to their already stacked forward line.

    Manchester United return to the Round of 16 after 2 seasons away. They face an Atletico Madrid side that has struggled at the start of the season but it would not be wise to write off Diego Simeone’s troops. United boss Ralf Rangnick will be seeking a good run in the Champions League since the Premier League title charge is over for United.

    The first legs of the ties took place on the 15 February with PSG playing against Real Madrid, and Sporting Lisbon against Manchester City. Manchester City secured a win with 5 goals.

    The others will take place as follows 16, 22,and 23 February with the return legs taking place on 8, 9, 15, and 16of March.

    Residence of Krypton’s Apartments held a Virgil in memory of the late Daniel Boronjo yesternight 9 December at Krypton’s Apartments.

    Desh Eagle and his close friends led the vigil. Daystar students also joined them to show support, love and light a candle for the late Boronjo.

    The Virgil started at 8:30 pm, with the DCF chairperson, Moses Wisdom who shared a short word encouraging those in attendance to learn a lesson from the late Daniel Boronjo’s life and gave a short prayer. His close friends shared close memories and expressed their loss of a great friend.

     

    The Vigil was held till later yesternight. Candles were lit around his picture and some used their candles to draw his name.

    In memory of the Late Daniel Boronjo, may his soul Rest In Peace.

  • Student Found Dead in Off-Campus Hostel

    The Daystar community is mourning the sudden death of Daniel Baronjo, a fourth-year Community Development major whose body was found lifeless in his Kryptons Apartments house on December 8.

    The cause of his death is currently unknown as investigations are still in place with an official communication expected to be issued later today. Athi River Campus Governor Walter Nalwa has urged students and others who were close to him to remain calm and allow authorities to conduct their proceedings for the cause of death to be established.   

    “The best we can do is to pray for our fellow comrade to be in a better place up there with the Lord. His family should as well be comforted during this trying times and supported,” stated Nalwa.

    According to DeshCare International CEO Dennis Mavia; an alumnus of the institution and resident of Kryptons, the deceased’s body was found lying motionless on his bed. “I tried waking him up but he was really asleep and cold and that was around 5:30 heading to 6:00 and currently we do not know the cause of the death.”

    The hostel’s caretaker describes the deceased as a polite tenant who had no problem with any of his neighbors. “Boronjo moved in here on 1st of October and I have known him to have been a polite person and I have never received complaints from anybody since he never had issues with anyone”.

    Krypton’s management sends its condolences and has assured to follow up on what really happened.

    The memorial of the late Carol Wayua Mueni, who passed away on 13 November 2021, was held yesterday 22 November 2021.

    The service was held at the Daystar Auditorium from 12:00 pm – 2:10 pm was presided over by Nairobi Lighthouse Church and the Daystar University Chaplaincy.

    Carol Wayua Mueni was among four other staff members working for Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir involved in a road accident on Saturday evening while heading to Lamu. She was just but beginning her life, being an Alumni of Daystar having graduated with a B.A in Communication on 13 November 2020. She had also just turned 24 on September 5 this year. A kindred spirit with everyone she crossed paths with Carol’s Memorial attested to just that.

    The Service started with an opening prayer and at the entrance of the auditorium’s concourse, there was a condolence book for people to sign and say something small to the family. The M.C. was distinctive by nature compellingly upheld order and time. The sermon began immediately after the opening prayer with the minister reminding us that “sometimes the people we want to stay with us are the ones who are most needed by God, for we are not here to mourn but to celebrate a life that was lived in God and in good.”

    We then proceeded to the speeches by the Main campus school governor Walter Nalwa and the head of the Daystar Alumni followed by the tributes by both her closest friends and the family respectively. Albeit engulfed with grief and heartache with some breaking down amid their speeches, the dolorous family and friends soldiered through in memory of Carol Wayua.

    A candlelight moment of silence followed the eulogium. A video tribute was also played in honor of Carol’s memory and the service reached a culmination with a vote of thanks and a final prayer for the family.

    Carol was actively involved in Daystar University as she served in DCCC from 2016 – 2018 and in the corporate affairs office from 2019 – 2020. Being a philanthropist at heart, she spearheaded a number of giving back to the community activities and charities particularly to the Lukenya Pillars children’s home around Daystar Athi-River Campus. Equally engaged in Shine FM as an anchor and presenter and a reporter for both The Involvement Newspaper and Shine FM she volunteered as a peer counselor which saw a number of students confide in her.

    Her passion for journalism was greatly fostered by her time at Daystar and continued on while working for Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir saw her develop an ever vehement love for political journalism. She also enjoyed watching soccer and was a die-hard fan of the Chelsea football club. She loved her family even more and never missed staying in touch.

    It was a good service that left most if not everyone in attendance a little devastated at the loss of an angelic soul for those we hold in our arms for a little while, we will always hold in our hearts forever.

    Daystar University Student Association (DUSA) through the office of the Secretary-General
    organized a fun day event held at Stedmark gardens and recreational center in Karen on
    November 20.

    The main purpose of the event was for the students to enjoy the day and relieve their minds
    from their busy schedules that they normally have. “Today being a Saturday we have an event
    for students to come and have fun, refresh their minds and be ready to do their course work when
    they are fresh” said Caleb Paul Msando; DUSA’s Secretary-General.

    The event was for the first time a blend of both campuses that is Valley Road and Athi River.
    This was to help students from both campuses know each other and socialize hence creating
    networks. In addition, this helped them unite and challenge each other to know their strengths
    and weaknesses.

    Collins Nyamburi a Biomedical student and a member of the fun day committee made sure travel
    arrangements were in order and had the following to say “We thank God for today’s event as
    everything went as planned. We expected 1,200 students. There were 5 buses from Athi River
    campus and 2 buses from Nairobi campus and so everything went on as planned.”

    In addition, he thanked all students who participated and encouraged those who did not to do so next time.
    Students engaged in topspin, which was a machine equipped to rotate students at a fast speed up
    and down amongst other activities such as rope pulling, swimming, chuchu and dragon trains
    together with paddle boat rowing.

    In the rope-pulling challenge, Athi emerged as the victors as a result of team work and determination. They challenged their counterparts to’ eat more ugali’ and come back prepared next year as they weren’t challenging enough.

    By midday, everyone had arrived and was having fun with a slight downpour which forced
    students to continue with the fun indoors especially swimming which was warmed up. “Planning
    the event had been a bit hectic but we are glad the event successfully happened and we hope
    better plans for the future fun day event,” said Joel the poet, a valley road student.

    In yet another interview with the Sec-Gen, he added that students should all expect great plans
    from DUSA and clearly indicated the following, “We have a big event in February come next
    year, Student of Excellence Award (SOEA) and also have Mr. and Mrs. Daystar chosen”.

    It was indeed a job well done and especially from everyone who participated in the event

    The dean of students sent out an email on Monday on 8 November raising concerns on the Halloween Wednesday theme for Cultural Expo.

    The Cultural-Expo kicked off on 8 November at Daystar Nairobi Campus with the Halloween as one of the themes to be worn on Wednesday 10 November. This raised concerns among students in the Daystar Communication Group on why the theme is there yet the institution is a Christian Institution.

    ‘’Well, I thought we are supposed to celebrate an event because we know its origin, history and significance. An African theme is not only the cloth you wear. It’s an identity and a culture as well. For Christians, Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Christ. If someone else celebrates it because it’s a period for free things and an excuse to go out partying, they’re wrong. That’s why as an African student studying at a Christian university, I don’t identify with an event which has “Halloween” as one of its themes,’’ stated Hilmelda Tenkeu a Communication student Public Relations major.

    In the email, the dean stated that historically those who celebrated the festival believed that the souls of the dead returned to mingle with the living.

    ‘’Historically, celebrants of this festival believe that the souls of the dead – including ghosts, goblins, and witches – return to mingle with the living. In addition, they hold that in order to scare away the evil spirits, people should wear petrifying masks and light bonfires. Such teachings are contrary to not only what Daystar stands for, but also the Bible itself,’’ stated the email.

    The email went on to state that the Nairobi Campus Governor Brian Achoka, had been advised on the matter by the University Chaplain and the Dean of the students.

    ‘’Halloween is purely and absolutely evil and there is nothing we ever have, or will do, that would make it acceptable to the Daystar Himself. Any such practice will therefore be considered as a deliberate rebellion with consequent repercussions,’’ stated the email.

    When asked for a comment the Nairobi Campus governor had none.

    ‘Unconstitutional’ Student Budget Suspended by University Management

    The DUSA government 2021/2022 budget has been suspended effective immediately, following a meeting between student leaders and the University’s management on November 8.

    The DUSA budget was declared unconstitutional for having no approval from the Congress and lacking the speaker’s signature.

    “This is to let you know that the DUSA budget has been suspended after a fruitful meeting involving the congress and the Daystar University Management Board,” reads an email from the DUSA clerk Eunice Siameto.

    The Dean of Students Reverend Mutinda Musyimi acknowledged the decision stating that it was the right thing to do although it comes a little late because the budget in place had already been used. “This means going back to the drawing board. It means that the DUSA council should not draw a budget and start actioning on it without it passing through the congress,” says the Dean.

    Congress Speaker Noel Shimba says he is shocked to find out that a budget, which did not include the congress benefits, had been drawn by the DUSA Council and had been approved without his signature. There has been a push and pull between the congress and the management for a while concerning the submitted proposals of their benefits, with the two having had several meetings that culminated in today’s verdict.

    “The DUSA budget should be one and it is supposed to be one and cover the two bodies. The budget drawn by DUSA lacked the Congress activities and benefits. However, the budget was still approved even with it lacking the speaker’s signature and was not approved by the congress,” states Shimba.

    The congress speaker further assured that a new budget whose drafting will involve all constitutional procedures shall be put in place by the end of the week. “It was only right to suspend it until we draft another budget this week. The management has agreed the budget is null and void since it did not follow the right channels. The budget requires the president’s, treasurer’s and speaker’s signature for it to be released.”

    The Secretary-General Caleb Paul alais refuted claims of the budget suspension claiming that Congress leaders are being led by their personal interests.

    “The Congress are suspending the budget because they want a benefit that they feel they school is not giving them : a benefit that they wish to have…that’s not fair that is an injury to comrades and as a council we are not going to accept that and we are not going to move backwards,” commented Msando.

    According to the speaker, this means that all events remained on hold until the issue is resolved.

    IEBC conducted a voter registration activity at the PAC in the main campus,Athi River,  from October 19th to 25th.

    The  IEBC clerks – Caroline Mbinye and Milcah Nduku, were surprised to register 147 students out of a targeted 1000. This represented a total of 15% of the expected numbers which was a big disapointment to them. In addition, most of those who registered were from other counties.

    According to the two clerks the reason for the low turnout includes students (especially first years) not having ID cards but only waiting cards, others willingly refusing  to conduct the process while others not being aware of it.”Most ID’s haven’t been released hence couldn’t be registered for lack of a serial number,” says Ms Mbinye

    Most of the freshmen are still young hence there is no way they could get registered without an identification card. Surprisingly, some of them were not interested in the process with some of them claiming to be already registered as voters. Others who live off-campus were not aware of the ongoing process.

    As of October 27th, the total number of voters that had been registered countrywide was 760,000 out of a target of 4.5 million. This represents 17% of the total targeted by IEBC.

    The next destination of the two is Kinanie where they will continue with registering voters from Mavoko constituency.
